Orphan Drug Designation (ODD) is granted by the FDA to drugs intended to treat rare diseases affecting fewer than 200,000 people in the US. It provides development incentives including 7-year market exclusivity, tax credits, and accelerated review. Thymosin α1 holds orphan designation in the US for certain indications.
