Biomarker

Also called surrogate biomarker · biological marker

A biomarker is a measurable biological characteristic used as an indicator of normal or pathological processes, or of response to treatment. Examples: HbA1c for diabetes management, IGF-1 for GH-axis activity, VEGF levels for angiogenic activity. Biomarkers may serve as surrogate endpoints in trials when the true clinical endpoint would take too long to measure.
