Endpoint

Also called primary endpoint · secondary endpoint · surrogate endpoint

An endpoint is a specific, pre-defined outcome measured in a trial to determine whether the intervention is effective. A primary endpoint is the main question the trial is powered to answer (e.g. % body-weight reduction at 68 weeks). Secondary endpoints examine additional outcomes. Surrogate endpoints (e.g. HbA1c) proxy for harder-to-measure clinical outcomes.
