Receptor

A receptor is a protein — usually on the cell surface or inside the cell — that specifically binds a signaling molecule (ligand) and transduces that binding into a downstream biological response. Peptide receptors are typically G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) or receptor tyrosine kinases.
