Deletion Sequence

Also called deletion impurity · truncation impurity · missed coupling

A deletion sequence is a truncated impurity produced when a coupling step in SPPS fails to add the intended residue, and the chain continues elongating one residue shorter. Longer peptides accumulate more deletions because there are more coupling steps where failure can occur. HPLC purification removes deletion sequences.
