In solid-phase peptide synthesis, the resin is the insoluble polymeric bead to which the first amino acid of the chain is attached. Subsequent residues are coupled one at a time; the completed peptide is then cleaved from the resin and purified. Rink amide resin yields a C-terminal amide; Wang resin yields a free carboxyl.
