Intranasal administration delivers a compound through the nasal mucosa, which is richly vascularised and sits close to the olfactory bulb. For peptides that must reach the CNS, intranasal delivery is studied as a way to reduce first-pass metabolism and exploit olfactory-nerve transport pathways. Semax and selank are commonly studied by this route in Russian clinical literature.
