Oxidative Stress

Also called ROS · reactive oxygen species · free radical damage

Oxidative stress occurs when reactive oxygen species (ROS) overwhelm cellular antioxidant defenses, damaging DNA, proteins, and lipids. Mitochondria are the primary source of ROS; peptides studied in longevity research such as SS-31 and MOTS-c are proposed to reduce mitochondrial ROS production and improve antioxidant capacity.
